President Raisi's condition remains unclear after a helicopter he was in crash landed

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's condition remains unclear after a helicopter he was in crash landed in the country's north on Sunday, according to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.

The helicopter was carrying Raisi and several other officials to the city of Tabriz when it crashed in a mountainous area, IRNA reported. The cause of the crash is not yet known, but IRNA said that an investigation has been launched.

Raisi is the first Iranian president to be involved in a helicopter crash since 1980, when then-President Abolhassan Banisadr was injured in a crash that killed several of his aides.

The crash comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States. The U.S. has been increasing its military presence in the region in recent months, and the two countries have been trading threats of war.

The crash is likely to further escalate tensions between the two countries.
